“Even though I looked alive and vital, the hourglass measuring the aliveness of my soul was swiftly draining to the bottom. I was losing my battle to be myself. I was in my prime. My career was taking off; I was surrounded by loving friends and family. Yet it felt like time was running out.”
Dr. Robin L. Smith, noted psychologist, ordained minister, motivational speaker, and best-selling author of Lies at the Altar, seemed to have the perfect life, but underneath it all, she felt empty.
In this powerful new work, Dr. Robin painstakingly chronicles a time when she felt at the end of her rope, unable to truly see herself or escape the unrelenting craving in her heart. Throughout her life, she had always focused on living up to everyone else’s expectations, doing everything they asked—everything they recommended—in the hopes that by pleasing others she would find fulfillment and success. Instead she found herself spiritually and emotionally starved with a hungry soul begging for change.
Through vivid descriptions of the symptoms of her hunger, the gnawing emptiness in her soul, and her courageous journey to discovering herself, Dr. Robin opens a window into her own experiences in order to provide insight into yours. With clarity and empathy she starts you on a path to uncovering the real you—the you that lays beneath all the doubt, superficiality, and life crises. Dr. Robin honestly bares her soul and shares her story—plus stories of other hungry souls including her friends, clients from her psychology practice, family, and celebrities—and in the process, teaches you to recognize, survive, embrace and conquer your own hunger. She teaches you to step into your own story so you can listen to and learn from the wisdom within. Available at Amazon & Barnes & Noble
Hungry, The Truth About Being Full Isn’t about the hunger for food, but the craving to reclaim and embrace our true identity. It’s not about making a plan or signing up for a program to change our lives or relationships. It is about signing up to be a witness to our own lives and journeys, as the main character in our own stories where we embrace life and our unique path. Hungry is about learning how to live the only life we can live with integrity, inspiration, liberation, grace, compassion and power – our own.
Hungry is the cry of every living soul to “Be Who You Are.” The Hungry litany might begin:
I’m hungry for real love—not crumbs I try to call a meal.
I’m hungry for relationships where respect is the cornerstone of the connection.
I’m hungry to be in relationships that don’t require me to dim my bright light in order to be offered a seat at the table.
I’m hungry to have my gift and talents truly appreciated by those I work with.
I’m hungry to not need to dumb myself down so that others feel smart.
I’m hungry to be beautiful and sexy and not a Barbie doll for a man.
I’m hungry to have a partner who doesn’t feel like a predator.
I’m hungry for passion and great sex that is worthy of my mind, body, and spirit.
I’m hungry to not have to play small when my spirit and dreams are big.
I’m hungry to be brave and not let fear drive my life. I’m hungry for an undivided self, soul, life, love, and relationship.
I am hungry to know I am loved and am irrevocably a child of God.
I’m hungry to be me.
When you pledge commitment for better or worse, are you thinking, "As long as it’s mostly better, and as long as it works for me?"
In Lies at the Altar: The Truth About Great Marriages, Dr. Robin Smith addresses the unspoken needs, unasked questions, outrageous expectations, and hidden agendas that often linger beneath the surface of the wedding vows--and later cause power struggles, suffering, feelings of hopelessness and failure in marriages.
Lies at the Altar shows every couple how to take the wedding vows they made in earnest and in innocence, and turn them into a promise to build a happy, healthy, satisfying and long-lasting marriage.
With moving stories and personal journeys, Dr. Smith reveals why it’s important to have one’s "eyes wide open" in a marriage; how to write true vows to live by; and why it’s never too late to rewrite your vows.
Whether people are heading to the altar, suffering in an unhappy marriage, divorced, or simply want to bring more satisfaction and intimacy into their relationship, Dr. Smith shows couples how to create Truth—the secret ingredient of great marriages.
If you are ready and willing to stop the merry-go-round of settling for less than your heart desires, and you want the reward of a secure and passionate marriage, Dr. Smith gives you everything you need to make the journey from acceptable misery to outrageous joy and satisfaction.

Excerpt - Vitamin Awakening
"The unexamined life is not worth living." Socrates
"The examined life is painful." Malcolm X
"…Awakening is about involving yourself fully in the game, in the ebb and flow of your life. If you have been hibernating, right now may be a good time to emerge from your cave. Please don’t misunderstand me: hibernation is an important stage for the survival of bears and humans alike. …When life has presented us with brutal loss and pain, and we feel as if the only break we get is heartbreak, we humans can drift into hibernation indefinitely. …But it’s a stage, not a permanent condition. Hibernation is intended only for a limited period of time: it has a beginning and an end. It is a time of rest, recovery, and protection from winter’s harshness, and if hibernation is handled, as it’s intended, it includes preparation for our Awakening. … It is never too late to begin the journey of Awakening. Once you are fully awake, you will discover waiting for you an unclaimed gift with your name on it. This gift is there for the taking. It is the gift of your life!"

Questions to Ask Yourself
- Was there a time you felt awakened? Did you see, think, or feel something new? What was it? Who helped you?
- Have you ever helped someone awaken to new information, ideas, and new realizations? Who was it? Would you do it the same way again?
- Do you know anyone who refuses to awaken? Who is it? What is it like for you being in a relationship with them?
- If there were someone you could trust with your life that could safely and gently awaken a part of you that is still sleeping, what part would it be? What do you need to be reassured of before you awaken?
